At Chetwynd Primary Academy, we are proud to have a knowledge-based curriculum which stimulates our children into asking searching questions, shapes their learning and enables them to develop into independent thinkers and learners. Our curriculum is engaging, exciting and innovative, encompassing and celebrating all curriculum areas, helping to ensure that our children develop the knowledge and skills they need to excel, and become creative and curious citizens. The school offers a broad curriculum enhanced by a range of extra-curricular activities. Some children purchase musical tuition for violin, guitar and flute. We provide a residential trip for all our Key Stage 2 pupils. The school delivers a modern foreign language at Key Stage 2. All our pupils have a one hour French lesson each week provided by specialists from our linked secondary school, George Spencer Academy.

Chetwynd Primary Academy is part of the Spencer Academies Trust along with ten other schools. All schools within the Trust liaise regularly; supporting best practice for our children and enhancing staff CPD opportunities.

The school is part of the George Spencer Family of Schools, which includes George Spencer Academy, Banks Road Infant School, Bispham Drive Junior School, William Lilley Infant School and Fairfield Primary School. Almost all the children transfer at 11+ to the George Spencer Academy.

We continually invest in our own staff to support their professional practice and welcome other schools in to share our areas of excellence. Our Principal is an LLE (Local Leader in Education) and our Deputy and Assistant Head are both SLEs (Specialist Leaders in Education in English and Maths respectively). We are also part of the George Spencer Teaching Schools Alliance and the East Midlands West Maths Hub. Many of our staff members have undertaken the National Professional Qualifications for leadership from middle leaders (NPQML) to senior leaders (NPQSL and NPQH).

Parents are very supportive and a group called the F.I.S.H. (Friends In School Helping) who organise fund raising and social events for the school. Parents are made very welcome in the school and many assist in the classrooms. We have regular Open Mornings, Parents' Voice meetings and encourage parents to become involved as much as possible. Members of the local churches visit school on a regular basis to take assemblies and assist in R.E. lessons. Students from various settings carry out their practice and placements in the school. We have an excellent relationship with Tesco's (with whom we share a boundary) and regularly visit their store to support the children's learning. We also regularly liaise with the service personnel at Chetwynd Barracks for various events in school.

The local Governing Body is both committed and enthusiastic.
